Why

I made a goal to write 3 blog posts before 2020-12-21 and this is the third. It's a note compilation from watching videos on youtube about video production. Everybody is starting a youtube channel so I've shared this multiple times. I figured it would make a nice post.

Notes

• Create Depth
• Frame a person center or in a third
  • Keep the body line on the right or left third and the eyes in the top third
• Keep it eye level
• Big soft light and keep it on a side (45 deg) and above eye line for more cinematic shadows
  • Also called Rembrandt lighting
• Shutter speed twice the framerate
• Keep aperature low for shallow depth of field effect
• Position the interviewer so that the subject looks at the right spot
• Use akward silence to encourage the subject to expand on answers
• The Whip Transition is possibly the most popular
• How to make ugly locations cinematic
  • Drop the angle below eye level
  • Shoot in the morning or at night
  • Remove indoor lights and add haze
  • Swap lenses to blur background or include more of it
  • Keep the camera moving
  • Add foreground elements to keep movement dynamic
