📽️ Video Production Notes
Why
I made a goal to write 3 blog posts before 2020-12-21 and this is the third. It's a note compilation from watching videos on youtube about video production. Everybody is starting a youtube channel so I've shared this multiple times. I figured it would make a nice post.
Notes
- Create Depth
- Frame a person center or in a third
- Keep the body line on the right or left third and the eyes in the top third
- Keep it eye level
- Big soft light and keep it on a side (45 deg) and above eye line for more cinematic shadows
- Also called Rembrandt lighting
- Shutter speed twice the framerate
- Keep aperature low for shallow depth of field effect
- Position the interviewer so that the subject looks at the right spot
- Use akward silence to encourage the subject to expand on answers
- The Whip Transition is possibly the most popular
- How to make ugly locations cinematic
- Drop the angle below eye level
- Shoot in the morning or at night
- Remove indoor lights and add haze
- Swap lenses to blur background or include more of it
- Keep the camera moving
- Add foreground elements to keep movement dynamic
- Reverse key lighting
- Cove lighting
